Day One

Last night I was inspired to take advantage of my youth and relative good health. In recent weeks I've been wanting to do something charitable and I've been thinking about ways I could raise some money.

Now it's quite well known among my friends that I'm a good baker so I thought about the classic bake sale. Unfortunately I'm not 16 and therefore don't have a school own clothes day to use so that idea went out of the window quite quickly! I then decided that staying within my comfort zones would not raise as much money as if I did something completely against my very nature!

And so, I Googled charitable runs in Manchester and up came the Bupa Great Manchester Run 2012. I know running doesn't sound like a big deal so allow me to elaborate. I don't run. Ever. If there is a bus about to leave the bus stop and it's the only bus that will get me to my destination on time I will not run for it. Ever. I hate running and don't run. So to willingly sign up for a 10K run is kind of a big deal for me!

So that's the background, maybe now you can understand my apprehension! I have 120 days to turn myself around. I have to not only learn to run, I also have to learn a bit of stamina (make that a lot of stamina!) and an overhaul of my diet will probably be in order! Who knows, maybe i'll become addicted to running!!

I'll be starting the training soon, starting off easy and gradually building, I'll also be keeping a blog on the whole journey, for other runners and anyone else who might be interested!

Thanks for what will hopefully be support and sponsorship!
